Most people who come to me with burnout have already tried resting. A long weekend, a week off, a holiday they had been counting down to for months. It helps. For a few days, sometimes a week, things feel lighter. And then, slowly or all at once, it comes back.

That isn’t a sign that you rested wrong. It’s a sign that rest was answering a different question from the one burnout is asking.

Tiredness and burnout are not the same thing

Tiredness is about energy: you spent more than you had, and sleep or time off refills it. Burnout is closer to a pattern: a way of working and relating to work that keeps draining you even when the hours go down.

That’s why the Monday after a holiday can feel worse than the Friday before it. Nothing about the pattern has changed. You are simply walking back into it.

“Rest refills the tank. It doesn’t fix the leak.”

What tends to help for longer

In our sessions we usually look at three things: what you say yes to without noticing, what you believe will happen if you stop, and what “enough” would actually look like for you. None of these are quick. All of them are more useful than another long weekend.

If this sounds familiar, you don’t have to work it out alone. That’s what the free intro call is for.
