If you have never been to therapy, the first session can feel like a black box. There is no couch and there are no tests. Here is what we actually do in those fifty minutes.
The first twenty minutes
We start with what brought you here, in your own words and at your own pace. I will ask some questions, but you decide how much to say. There are no wrong answers and nothing you need to prepare.
The middle
We look at what you’d like to be different. Sometimes that is clear, sometimes it isn’t yet, and that’s fine. I will also explain how I work and what the next few sessions might look like.
“You don’t need to know what to say. That’s part of the work.”
The last ten minutes
We agree on whether to continue and how often. You leave with a rough plan, and you are free to take time to think about it.
